Excavation Background
The Awhisker archive encountered the works of 犬喜(Inuki) and 尤里_yoori(Yoori) in a gallery space with an industrial ceiling and focused light. Two works hung side by side on a white wall. A third, smaller, occupied the wall to the right.
The archive did not find them in a catalog. It found them in a room.
Each work is mounted on a black rectangular panel. Around the perimeter of each panel, cream-colored silk fabric has been gathered and folded into dense, layered ruffles — the kind of collar that appears in Flemish portraiture, in surgical theater documentation, in the preparation of specimens for long-term storage. The fabric does not soften the object at the center. It frames it. It announces it.
At the center of each panel: an eye. Not a painted eye. Not a sculpted approximation. An organic form that carries the full weight of biological specificity — the left specimen tending toward grey-brown, the surface matte and compressed; the right specimen a deep wine-red, the surface wet-looking, the iris detail pulled inward with the kind of focus that does not release.
From the base of each panel, a fine chain descends. It does not reach the floor. It hangs.

Anatomical & Material Observation
The ruffle is not decorative. In the context of her practice, the gathered silk performs a specific archival function: it is the material equivalent of a specimen label, a display mount, a containment border. It says: what is inside this frame has been classified. What is inside this frame has been prepared for observation.
