Product details

The shell did not open willingly. What was found inside had been accumulating there for longer than the shell had existed — a gaze that predates its own container. Six were recovered. Each holds a different eye: a different iris, a different depth of witness, a different arrangement of pearl and chain around the wound of looking. They can be pinned or suspended. The eye does not register the difference. It has been watching since before it was found, and it will continue after it is acquired.

Lore & Provenance

The Lover’s Eye tradition held that a single eye could contain the entirety of devotion — excised, miniaturized, preserved. These relics do not miniaturize. The eye fills the shell completely, as though the nacre grew around the gaze rather than around an irritant. Six visages were catalogued. Each is a separate witness. None were painted for display.

Anomalies & Forging

Each shell retains its natural surface variation — uneven ridging, organic edge irregularity, and the faint iridescence of the nacre interior. Pearl and chain elements are hand-placed; their positioning varies across visages and constitutes part of each artifact’s archival identity. The artifact may be worn as a brooch or pendant necklace — each configuration presents the eye at a different angle to the world.

Physical Composition

Material: Mixed-media — oyster shell with nacre interior, pearl, decorative chain elements

Containment Protocols

Keep away from prolonged moisture exposure. The shell surface and nacre interior should not be submerged. Store each visage in a dry enclosure when not in use. Wipe with a dry cloth only; avoid chemical cleaning agents on the shell body, pearl elements, or eye inlay.
