The Artifact's Lore

The cross does not divide the iris — it occupies it. The blue-grey ground holds the etched form the way stained glass holds lead: not as decoration, but as structure. The rust-red enamel moves through the surface like something that was once liquid and decided to stay. Below the eye, the spike drops. The cross in the pupil does not blink.
